The story of MCA Open University is, in fact, the story of one man and a dream. It all began in 2015, when Maikel Calzadilla, then serving as Academic Director of another institution, made an observation that deeply impacted him: universities around the world were still offering education in a rigid, traditional, and uninspiring way. That same year, while pursuing a master’s degree in Spain, he realized that even in the country’s most prestigious business schools, programs lacked motivation, innovation, and true relevance for students.
2015
Instead of settling for less, Maikel made a bold decision that would change his life: he left that academic path behind and began to forge his own.
This was the beginning of the MCA Business & Postgraduate School, his first educational project, which quickly proved to be different.
Through creativity, innovation, and passion, the school gained international recognition: its first prototype won the Special Mention at the Ibero-American Award for Educational Innovation.
That recognition confirmed what Maikel had already envisioned: education could and must be transformed.
2020
Five years later, with the solid experience of leading a successful graduate school, Maikel felt it was time to take a greater leap.
His vision grew beyond virtual classrooms and became the idea of a global, modern, and truly open university.
This was the birth of MCA Open University. Open because it had to be inclusive in every sense: open in financial accessibility, open in languages, open in methodologies, open to anyone with the desire to learn and grow without barriers.
2022
In 2022, Maikel formally established the university in the State of Florida, USA.
Since then, together with a committed team, he dedicated himself to building and consolidating this project: perfecting academic programs, developing a cutting-edge educational platform, designing a hybrid ecosystem that combines the best of online and in-person education, and forging strategic international partnerships.
2025
Today, in 2025, Maikel Calzadilla’s dream is a reality: MCA Open University stands as a disruptive institution that combines technology, pedagogical innovation, and a deep commitment to shaping global professionals.
With fully digitalized programs, high-quality audiovisual classes, active methodologies, international academic residencies, and a strong focus on employability and sustainability, the university is redefining what it means to learn in the 21st century.
What began as the vision of one man with the courage to break traditional molds has now become a collective mission: to build the new digital university, where innovation inspires learning and transforms the lives of students around the world.
